Collars for Collars (I know, not as cool as AmeriCares)
Okay guys, here's what I'm thinking, hopefully this will work. If not, then back to the drawing table. How about an organization, maybe as a suppliment to food stamps, or a sister-organization or something to that effect, that, once poor people graduate from training for jobs, gives them professional looking suits and dress clothes that other people and stores donate? Call it Collars for Collars, you know, like the job distinction. Have a catch fraise and some famous person to endorse it, like George Clooney, just standing there saying something like, "no matter the collar job, blue, white or pink, we got a collar for you!" Corny, yet effective. Took me a while to come up with a name for it. And then maybe include a taxi-type service that can take people to their interviews? I think that could work. Maybe hire people that can act as self-esteem builders, kinda like the coaches in a boxing match, helping people tying their ties, helping them work on their first impressions, giving them pep talks, something cool. What do you all think?

I think it is a good idea but you just don't want to pep people up and tell them how to look. Maybe have a class that gives these guys who just finished the program interview skills and other advice on what it's going to be like getting a job. You still want to pep them up but also they need to know that they might not get the first job they apply for.
ReplyDeleteWhat about giving some tax write off or something for the people that donate to the program?
I think this idea is a great start. Just need to work on it a bit!
I love the idea of Collars for Collars. I believe many of the problems concerning people entering the workforce for the first time is their limited knowledge and access to the materials that make for a successful first impression. However, I believe a lot of these soft skills will be acquired in the work training program. So you could focus entirely on the Collars to Collars corporation, which can provide the necessary look most employers are searching for without having the "client", or individual who is entering the workforce again, feel as if he or she lacks the proper attire to pull their look together. Also this program could re-instill confidence and self esteem, as well as a sense of support and limit the stress that comes along with the job search process.
ReplyDeleteI love the taxi voucher program as well. I love how the two fit together, which is extremely important in you want to offer the client the complete package when reentering the workforce. So overall, I love Collars to Collars and it is a "fitting" start to solving a major problem.
